Blossom: The Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt

I was admiring the book, The Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt by Laurie Aaron Hird when Kerry announced her quilt a long group and what better reason to follow through with good intentions than to join a group. This is my block, Blossom. I chose to foundation piece the block to keep it neat and tidy as these blocks finish about 6 inches square.

I have also decided to use authentic, vintage 1930s and 40s prints for this quilt. The solids are not vintage as those tend to be harder to come by, I have used Moda 'Betty's Red' for this block. This project will be a good use of my scrap bin fabrics and deconstructed damaged quilts that I have rescued over the years. However, foundation paper piecing tends to eat up fabrics or maybe thats just me? I may opt for  the EPP templates to hand piece some blocks. I love that the book comes with printable patterns for english paper piecing or foundation piecing as well as coloring/layout pages to plan each block. I'm looking forward to knocking out quite a few of these blocks as the weather cools.

And for some reason, I am drawn to red and blue vintage fabrics so that theme may emerge as well.

TIPS:

-When paper piecing, follow the order for sewing and joining sections  provided in the patterns  and your seams will nest nicely
-I used Best Press on the fabric before cutting into individual pattern pieces, which helps at keeping your block crisp at every step
- I used a 2" strip for the smaller pieces, which I  then sub-cut as needed

I do hope that you'll join along!

SUCH Design's 'Paint' + Fabric Giveaway

Once again,  I was lucky enough to play with some pre-release fabric and oh my dear, I adore it! This here is SUCH Design's  second collection for Windham Fabrics, "PAINT". Thoughtfully and playfully designed, Carrie Bloomston has done it again. The texture of her painted solids are rich and dreamy, the text prints are tasteful and inspiring. I got mad love for this collection.

I adapted  a pattern called 'Sorbet Mini Quilt' by Katie Clark Blakesley from the book Vintage Quilt Revival to make this quilt.  I was really happy with the results, lots of pop, just enough neutral. Win-win. I did some heavy-duty, double grid quilting on this little guy, mainly because I didn't want to be finished with it.

If you'd like to play with some of this fabric yourself, leave a comment on this post to enter to win a charm pack of 'PAINT.' I will choose a winner  Friday morning, April 18th.
As always, thanks for stopping by!

blue and green herringbone baby quilt.

A custom quilt...

with snazzy colors,

and a playful backing,

that I considered keeping 'cause it matches my chair.

Alas, I did not.

Oh, Uhhh....Where did January go?

Another herringbone quilt...this one is backed in a lovely vintage, screen-printed, floral cotton fabric. I adore the contrast in the preppy little sweetheart.
Hope this December finds you all well!

partly cloudy, a quilt.

I cannot begin to tell you how surprised and flattered I was by the outpouring of kind words I received about my first geometric triangle quilt, a quilt for harry. As a result, I was inspired to create a similar look with tones of blue.

I have named this quilt partly cloudy because of the weather my little corner of Michigan was enduring whilst I pieced, quilted and bound this little guy. Thankfully, it has been nothing but big sunny skies for the past week.

I'd like to thank the quilting community as well as those quilt admirers (Pinterest) who have been so kind. It's lovely to be inspired to create beautiful things and share them here.

This quilt is my entry for the 2012 Bloggers Quilt Festival, which will no doubt, bring endless hours of quilty inspiration.

Thank you so much for stopping in!
