I am finally back from a little unplanned 'blog break.' Sometimes a girl just needs a couple of weeks to think and all I've really come up with is that I think too much. This oil spill in the Gulf is breaking my heart on a daily basis and making me utterly sick. I honestly felt a little guilty doing anything pleasurable while such a catastrophe was underway.hmmmff.I did however, manage some sewing on my little 'break'. I just LOVE the new fabrics by Etsuko Furuya for Echino. The new line is called Ni-Co and I got mine here. I can't wait to get some more colors and work on some new designs with this line. It's so nice to work with!
This quilt is very similar to my first hipster baby quilt except I used smaller squares to make the most out of my new Echino prints. I also added a couple of cotton pieces to this quilt, whereas my first hipster baby quilt was all linen and linen blends in a much more muted palette.
I quilted it in my favorite grid pattern with red and golden thread. I backed it in Kona Lagoon (which might be my new favorite).

I am loving this new quilt! I've been eying up that Ni-co fabric, trying to convince myself I don't "need" it . . . but it's so cool! I really love how you've used it here.

Love it! I love the placement of the cameras, shades and scooters. What a cool quilt! That backing and binding fabrics looks fab together. BTW, I am with you on the oil spill. It is heartbreaking and hard not to watch every development.

I know what you mean about the oil spill...I'm from Louisiana and all my family are down there in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. They tell me it's just horrible. My heart is breaking not only for the livelihood of a lot of people I know, but for the fragile wetlands along the LA coast, and for the Gulf in general. It's my most favorite body of water and I'm heartsick about what this is going to mean for all the marine life and the beautiful beaches in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida!

Oh my gosh....so darn cute!!! I just ordered mine, I can't wait til it comes. don't feel bad, i think WAY to much too. so much that everyone in my life (including my kids) tell me on a regular basis, "you think to much"!! Everything on the news is heartbreaking, i get to the point that i have to force it all out of my head, otherwise it all becomes to overwhelming and consuming.

Like we have food and running water for one!.....seriously..
We have plenty of tragedies in the U.S. that we can actually get involved in! It is hard to watch things like this oil spill because we cannot do a thing about it. It's best to focus on the needs around us. Stuff we CAN actually do to help.
These are my thoughts...whatever that's worth:)

Hi! I spotted this quilt on the Storque today. It's great! I love the mix of Echino prints with solids.
I would never think to use this fabric in a quilt. Love what you did!
