Every now and again I am called to my sacred little box of vintage fabric scraps to sew something up. This is a belt that I made for my sister (a special request) for her birthday today. I made one for her when I was just learning to sew and wasn't aware of all the interfacing and batting available to make a project substantial for everyday use. Perhaps I was thinking she wouldn't wear it everyday.
However, the belt soon became her 'signature piece' (we're simple girls, she and I) and all that wear made the belt limp, serving her best for pretty, but certainly not practical. I hope she likes this one, it's built to last!
On another note, I picked this beauty up at an antique store earlier this week. At first I thought it would be a great cutter quilt, but now I don't dare.

wow..i sure would love to see the inside of your craft room!
What a great present for your sister. The quilt looks to be in great condition, I can see why you may be reluctant to cut it (my cutter quilts have giant holes or stains or tears).
LOVE the belt!! I made one a little while ago with stiff interfacing but it still flops around quite a bit. What did you use that you are so confident in? I'd love to try again.
love the belts! I would love to wear one of those. What a great birthday present. Happy birthday to your sister! Love that quilt too - those colors look so warm and rich and snuggly. Lucky find!
what an amazing amazing find. you are so lucky! that quilt is so beautiful
That belt is beautiful! I love the combination of all of those vintage fabrics...it's going to look so wonderful with jeans! And yeah, I don't think I could cut into that quilt either. What a great find.
Happy birthday to your sister!
XOXO,
Cyndi
The belt is amazing. I would have never thought of making one that way. You are so creative.
The quilt is absolutely gorgeous.
Yay your here! PLEASE don't cut that beauty up....Please! It's not like the lady making it is going to make another one:)So I am happy that you changed your mind!! I have some as well that are truly in Bad shape and I still can't cut them!!! Also lovin that belt. Really special!! She sure has a great sister:)
That belt is gorgeous! How did you make it, is there a tutorial for it? I would love to give it a try!
That quilt is awesome! What a great find!
Very sweet belt, and that quilt, what a lucky day for you!
beautiful quilt! I wouldn't cut it either. I've made belts just like that for myself and I love them, except mine have gotten a bit floppy too, so what did you use in this one? Looks very sturdy.
eek! That quilt is gorgeous! Don't cut it up!
And, the patchwork belt is so cute...you always do the best projects with patchwork.
Love the belt. Tutorial please! Glad you won't cut up the vintage quilt. Old quilts seem sort of sacred, or something like that.
your belts are so cute Erica! Yeah, I don't think I'd be able to cut into that either. It'd have to be in serious dis-repair for me to do that!
I'm so sure your sister loves the belt because I definitely would!! Ever since I saw this belt here, I've been wanting to have one like that. It will be great with a simple white dress!
The quilt is beautiful too!
