vintage patchwork love.

Every now and again I am called to my sacred little box of vintage fabric scraps to sew something up. This is a belt that I made for my sister (a special request) for her birthday today. I made one for her when I was just learning to sew and wasn't aware of all the interfacing and batting available to make a project substantial for everyday use. Perhaps I was thinking she wouldn't wear it everyday.
However, the belt soon became her 'signature piece' (we're simple girls, she and I) and all that wear made the belt limp, serving her best for pretty, but certainly not practical. I hope she likes this one, it's built to last!
On another note, I picked this beauty up at an antique store earlier this week. At first I thought it would be a great cutter quilt, but now I don't dare.

  2. What a great present for your sister. The quilt looks to be in great condition, I can see why you may be reluctant to cut it (my cutter quilts have giant holes or stains or tears).

  3. LOVE the belt!! I made one a little while ago with stiff interfacing but it still flops around quite a bit. What did you use that you are so confident in? I'd love to try again.

  12. beautiful quilt! I wouldn't cut it either. I've made belts just like that for myself and I love them, except mine have gotten a bit floppy too, so what did you use in this one? Looks very sturdy.

  14. Love the belt. Tutorial please! Glad you won't cut up the vintage quilt. Old quilts seem sort of sacred, or something like that.

  15. your belts are so cute Erica! Yeah, I don't think I'd be able to cut into that either. It'd have to be in serious dis-repair for me to do that!
